The Charmant Hotel
A hotel lifestyle and interiors photography project documenting The Charmant Hotel, focusing on interiors, lifestyle, and guest experience.
The Charmant Hotel is a 67-room boutique hotel located in downtown La Crosse, Wisconsin.
The hotel is located on the site of the very first settlement in La Crosse, a log cabin constructed by fur trader Nathan Myrick in 1842. A plaque memorializing this distinction can be seen on the property.
The building was originally constructed in 1898 for the FUNKE Candy Factory. Today, with its landmark water tower, The Charmant pays homage to its rich history by celebrating the golden era of fine candy manufacturing. Architectural details of the original structure – now a historic landmark – have been preserved and reimagined, including maple wood flooring, wood beams, and exposed brick.
As a photographer specializing in hotel lifestyle photography and interior photography, I aimed to capture the unique atmosphere of The Charmant — from its landmark architectural touches to the thoughtful design details that define its identity.
Boutique hotels thrive on personality, authenticity, and a strong sense of place. The Charmant’s rich history — including its original maple wood flooring, exposed brick, and architectural features — creates a narrative that modern travelers crave. My goal with hospitality interior photography is to visually preserve not just how a space looks, but how it feels: the warmth of natural materials, the character of curated design elements, and the mood of inviting communal spaces.
Great hotel lifestyle photography goes beyond standard room shots. It tells a story — of morning light filtering into guest rooms, of subtle textures in shared lounges, and of details that make guests feel welcome and connected. These images are not just documentation; they are a visual experience meant to evoke curiosity and inspire future guests. With The Charmant, every corner felt like a chance to blend design heritage with contemporary hospitality.
